Does ConvertXtoDVD have to convert the file before it can burn it?

So I dragged the mp4 file in and hit convert. Now it's playing the whole movie on a little screen as it's converting. Does this mean I must wait for the entire legnth of the movie for it to convert before I can burn it? Can I burn the file directly or speed up the conversion process? I didn't see anything in the settings about this. Thanks
